The Sydney Opera House is a performing arts center located in the city of Sydney, Australia. The Sydney Opera House was completed in 1973 and opened for its first show on October 20, 1973. The Sydney Opera House has been named one of the 20th Centuries most distinctive buildings and a world heritage site by UNESCO in June of 2007. The buildings design is meant to look like sails from a sail boat and this design has made the Sydney Opera House one of the most famous buildings in the world. The Sydney Opera House holds over 1500 shows each year which draws over 1 million people each year.

While the building is called an opera house, it in fact houses multiple venues that have a wide array of performance arts shows throughout the year. The first venue in the Sydney Opera House is the Concert Hall, which holds nearly 2700 people. The Concert Hall is the primary home of the Sydney Symphony, but is also holds concerts from various musical artists. Another venue in the building is the Drama Theatre. This venue holds just over 500 people and primary shows performances from the Sydney Theatre Company. The final large venue in the Sydney Opera house is the Opera Theatre. The Opera Theatre has just over 1500 seats and primary has various performances from the Australian Ballet and Opera Australia occurring throughout the year. There are 4 other small venues located in the Sydney Opera House that include The Playhouse, The Studio, The Utzon Room and The Forecourt.

They Sydney Opera House is probably the most visited tourist attraction that is located in Sydney, but there are also several great parks, beaches and museums to visit while in the city. The Royal Botanic Gardens are located very close to the Sydney Opera House and feature beautiful ponds and gardens that you can not find anywhere else in the city.
