Sydney Central Station Hotels
The Sydney Central Station, also known as the Sydney terminal, is located in Haymarket, near railway square. It is the largest train station in the city. It is positioned on the southern end of the central business district and connects with most lines in the CityRail network. It is a light rail network, offering access to the greater part of the suburban neighborhoods in Sydney.
About The Sydney Central Station
Sydney Central Station, Australia's largest train station, is located in the Sydney Central Business District. The station was built in 1906, with additions to the building being made since then, including the clock tower. Sydney Central Station is the third railway station to be built in Sydney. The first two stations, both called Redfern, were located in an area known as Cleveland Fields. The first Redfern station opened in September 1855, and was replaced by the second Redfern station in 1874 on the same site due to the first Redfern station being too small to accommodate the increase in railway traffic.
Today, Sydney Central Station is the hub for train and bus traffic in Australia. The station serves all CityRail lines for suburban commuters, save for the Hunter Line on the regional rail, and the Cumberland Line on the commuter rail. All trains on CountryLink, the interstate passenger train service that runs from New South Wales to Victoria and the southeastern part of Queensland, terminate at Sydney Central Station. Transportation from Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport to downtown Sydney and points beyond is also possible. The cross-country passenger train known as the Indian Pacific, which runs twice a week from Sydney to Perth, also terminates at Sydney Central Station.
The station also offers a number of other transportation options. The Metro Light Rail for the city of Sydney stops at the station, and can be used to get from other parts of the city to other parts of the country. The majority of bus lines for the surrounding areas pick up and terminate at the station. In addition, long haul bus services to other parts of New South Wales and other parts of Australia tend to start and finish their journeys at the station.
Sydney Central Station also includes a number of restaurants and shops, both in the station itself and nearby. This allows commuters and travelers the opportunity to get something to eat or drink, or pick up a last minute newspaper, before heading out into Sydney or getting on their train and heading out of town.
